7 Day Dekta Safari - Moremi Game Reserve and Khwai Conservancy

semunyeni delta safari 1 of 1 600x600This week long adventure starts at Maun airport in Botswana, where you’ll fly over the lush Okavango Delta to Moremi Game Reserve. A luxury safari vehicle will then escort you to the campsite where you’ll receive a welcome drink – one of South Africa’s award-winning wines, craft beer or a famous local liqueur Amarula – and a briefing on daily activities and safety measures. Your glamping accommodation is a luxurious tent with a king size bed, and each tent has bathroom en suite.

You’ll have time to unpack your clothes and then head out for your first game drive in our top-of-the-range 4×4 game vehicle with an expert guide, where you could experience some of the magic of the bush and see elephants, hippos, zebras, giraffes, lion, leopards and even the elusive wild dogs.

Rhino were extinct in the Okavango, but both black and white rhino have been reintroduced in the reserve, although sightings are still rare. All the other Big Five are easily spotted – even the hardest to find, the leopard – are quite relaxed here. Wild dog sightings (a once in a lifetime experience) are some of the best in Africa. The best time to go to see this incredible creature is the middle of the dry season, when the area is most flooded, and food is plentiful, and you can find the dogs denning.

For those who enjoy birding, there are some 500 different woodlands and water birds. Moremi offers very good bird watching year-round, but the best time is during the wet months, from November to April, when summer migrants make the reserve their temporary home. Wildlife viewing is better during the dry months, from May to October, when the brush has died down and the animals are easier to view.

After this, you’ll travel by road from Moremi to the Khwai Conservancy to continue experiencing the wonders of the African bush – the stars, the silence, and the sunsets.  Coffee and meals will be served en route to Khwai during the day.

Here we continue with the safari, but will also take you on a Mokoro excursion and a night drive in the brisk evening air to experience the activities of the nocturnal animals.

9 Day Desert Safari - Nxai Pans Makhadikgadi Pans and Central Kalahari

Semunyeni camping 1 of 1 600x750The Central Kalahari was made famous by Mark & Delia Owen’s book Cry of The Kalahari published in 1984 after several years of research on the Black-maned lions of the Kalahari. Game viewing is best during the dry season, from June to December, one truly gets to experience the diverse wildlife and wonderful scenery offering an amazing contrast to the rest of the country and ons is able to rove throughout the pans.

One can see these wonderful large cats with their black manes lying around the water holes during the dry seasons waiting for their opportunity for an easy meal as antelopes come down to drink. Other predators include leopard, cheetah, black-back jackals and bat eared foxes, to name a few. The elusive honey badger, brown hyena, striped polecat, aardwolf and cape fox can also be sighted in the beautiful desert region.

The largest flying bird in the world, the Kori bustard, can be seen throughout the region as well as African Red-eyed Bulbuls, Namaqua and Burchell Sandgrouse, Dark Chanting Goshawk, Rock  Kestrel and Tawny Eagle are regular sightings.

Antelope such as the Springbok, Gemsbuck (Oryx) and Red Hartebeest frequent the area. The Nxai Pans are home to the famous Baines Baobabs who exposed their beauty with the painting by Thomas Baines in 1862.The annual migration of the Wildebeest and Zebra in the area, similar to the great migrations in Kenya and Tanzania but on a smaller scale, takes place during the wetter seasons on the year around February and March depending on the annual rainfall. Here one can see the predators, such as lion, cheetah and leopard waiting for their opportunities to catch the offspring for an easy meal.

The pans in the east of the park don’t have much animal activity in the dry, winter months, but this is when their stark beauty is best appreciated.

Tailor Made Safari

The different regions in which Semunyeni Mobile Safari operates not only showcase the variety of wildlife within distinctive landscapes, but explore the cultural diversity of each region as well. It is important to decide what time of year to travel. Summer is generally the best time to travel for those seeking to view the birthing of many animals within an abundant setting, or for birding enthusiasts.

For those seeking drier landscapes and teeming herds around limited water resources, we would advise to book your trip in the winter months. Birders will enjoy the attention to detail on the various birds in the areas with the emphasis placed on birding whilst still enjoying the animals of the regions. Special birding safaris will be arranged on short notice of a special birding event.

Northern Botswana Safari – 10 days covering Moremi, Khwai, Savuti and Chobe finishing with a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe river.

Ultimate Botswana Safari – 12 days covering the desert and delta regions of Botswana.

We offer a variety of other specialised safaris.  Please refer to the web site for details. We can assist in arranging your tailor-made safari to any area in Botswana.  These safaris need to be a minimum of 7 nights and 6 guests.

Every meal at Semunyeni is pure indulgence: a variety of extravagant, unique, beautifully presented and delicious dishes.

After a morning of memorable game viewing, a freshly prepared and scrumptious brunch is served consisting of a variety of fruits, eggs, cheeses, and  cereals. Afternoon tea too is enjoyed in this picturesque setting, where guests can relax and revel on the mornings sightings.

As night sets in, lanterns and candles are lit and guests return from their game drive to be presented with a bush extravaganza dinner. Dinner is served under the African night sky or our dining room set within the exquisite bush as the backdrop to end a perfect day.

Guests can indulge in some superb wines around the crackling fire and end the day with a decadent dessert and a nightcap.
