Great Karoo Reserve Goes Big Five

Mount Camdeboo advances its long-term conservation vision with introduction of elephant and lion in 2018

Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve has announced that it will be furthering its long-term conservation vision with the introduction of elephant and lion onto the 14 000ha reserve in 2018. This means that Mount Camdeboo will become home to the famed ‘Big Five’ as rhino, Cape buffalo and leopard are already present on the property. These species all historically occurred in the Great Karoo region and forms part of the reserve’s long-term plans to reintroduce historically occurring species in the area.

Hop aboard the Lady Stanford river boat for a iconic and tranquil river cruise that winds its way gently along the picturesque Klein River, toward the Hermanus Lagoon. Spend time in the open upper and lower decks of this modern eco-friendly river boat with its quiet, four-stoke boat engines, as you watch a kaleidoscope of natural colour go by. No experience has been spared when it comes to comfort and luxury on board this vessel that most definitely stands out from the rest. A qualified skipper and experienced interactive guide, who intimately knows the river and all it has to offer, will ensure this journey is a memorable one. The Klein River features more than a hundred bird species which include majestic fish eagles, a flamboyance of pink flamingos and the ever spectacular, blue crane. Keep an eye out for otters, bontebok and horses grazing on the fertile river banks, as you make your way toward the lagoon.  Re-Opening of Forest Lodge after fire

Following a fire that damaged the main lodge area of Forest Lodge at the end of August, forcing the closure of the lodge while re-construction takes place, we are happy to say that work is well underway to meet the opening deadline of the 20th December. Using the opportunity to ensure that Forest Lodge gets a fresh new look, various areas in the main lodge have been re-designed.

Grootbos Accommodation Enterprises (Pty) Ltd have released the following press release providing an update regarding the closure of the Forest Lodge:

Firstly, thank you all for your patience during this period of uncertainty at Grootbos following the closure of Forest Lodge as a result of fire and water damage sustained here last Sunday. We fully understand the difficulty and stress that you are now being faced with in trying to accommodate your guests.

This week, we have undergone the finalisation of the damage assessment with various engineers, building contractors and architects. We are now in a position to inform you that Forest Lodge will be ready for occupation on the 15th December 2016.
