Cederberg Ridge

Situated 5km from Clanwilliam, this stylish ‘away-from-it-all’ experience is within easy reach of Cape Town and the Winelands. Cederberg Ridge is a luxurious wilderness lodge offering excellent food, hospitality and adventure. It overlooks the panorama of the Cederberg Mountains with its unique raw, rugged beauty.

Cederberg Ridge introduces the natural beauty and hidden gems of the Cederberg through a range of experiences – both for the active and the more laid-back. Untamed wide open spaces and charming rural hospitality of the Cederberg offers an authentic mix of San culture, Settler history and rural traditions. Famous for its hiking, stunning spring flowers, unusual sandstone rock formations and ancient rock art sites, the Cederberg is also home to a range of local wine estates with wine-tasting on offer at the lodge.

With winter temperatures often ranging between 22oC and 24oC, the Cederberg region experiences a much sunnier winter climate compared to anywhere else in the Western Cape. This allows for time and ease throughout the year to enjoy the many activities offered on and off site. Take in the stunning panoramic mountain views and other natural attractions of the Cederberg while walking or mountain biking. Participate in water activities at the Clanwilliam dam (water levels permitting). Pamper yourself and unwind with a spa treatment then in the evening enjoy stoytelling around the fire pit whist gazing at the stars.

The Cederberg is perfectly positioned for a Cape circuit tour as it is only 2+ hours from the Winelands, 2½ hours from Cape Town and 3½ to 4 hours from Hermanus or Swellendam. It is also the perfect stopping off point if you are heading north to either Namibia or the Kalahari.

Climate

If you are a sun-lover then Cederberg is for you! Even though Cederberg Ridge is only 21/2 hour's drive north of Cape Town, the climate is much warmer.

Winter (late May to mid-August): There is a lot going for their winter climate. Daytime temperatures can reach a pleasant 20-22°c, (much warmer than Cape Town!) So you can be active for the whole day, and still enjoy sitting outside. But the mornings and evenings are cold so this is the time for a long lie-in in bed, and red wine around the fire in the evening. Typically our activities start after breakfast. Officially an arid region (less than 200mm per year) so not much rain, this is still a winter rainfall region, (along with the rest of the Western Cape), so it can rain for a day or two.

Spring & Autumn (late August to October, mid-March to April): As with many climates, our spring and autumn months are our favourite time of year. The day time temperatures are warm to hot but you can still be active. The evenings are cooler but you can dine outside as long as you’ve got something warm to put on. Average daytime temperatures are typically 24-30°c. Evening temperatures are 15-18°c.

Summer (November to mid-March): The summers are hot but dry (so you don't get sticky). Ideally you should get up early if you want to be active, come back for late breakfast, then do something less strenuous later in the morning and relax around the pool in the afternoon. It cools down in the evening and you can dine outside throughout the summer.

What to Bring

The dress code is casual though some people like to dress up for the evening (but it's entirely up to you).

Comfortable walking shoes or trainers (even if you are not planning to be active, as it is a country area with some uneven ground).

Sunblock, sun hat and sunglasses in spring, summer and autumn.

Warm jacket for winter (and dress in layers).

A daypack is useful for longer excursions.
